چکیده

The concept of “actor” provenance data – essentially data that a client or service actor may assert about itself regarding an interaction, is presented. Actor provenance data can be combined with assertions of interaction to enable better reasoning within a provenance system. The need for recording and maintaining actor provenance data is discussed, along with the description of an architecture that can enable such recording. The types of data that may be recorded are subjective, and dependent on the nature of the application and the eventual use that is likely to be made of this data. A registry system that allows monitoring tools to be related to user needs is described with reference to an application scenario.

Kepler/pPOD: Scientific Workflow and Provenance Support for Assembling the Tree of Life

The complexity of scientific workflows for analyzing biological data creates a number of challenges for current workflow and provenance systems. This complexity is due in part to the nature of scientific data (e.g., heterogeneous, nested data collections) and the programming constructs required for automation (e.g., nested workflows, looping, pipeline parallelism). We present an extended versio...

Provenance Collection Support in the Kepler Scientific Workflow System

In many data-driven applications, analysis needs to be performed on scientific information obtained from several sources and generated by computations on distributed resources. Systematic analysis of this scientific information unleashes a growing need for automated data-driven applications that also can keep track of the provenance of the data and processes with little user interaction and ove...

Project Histories: Managing Data Provenance Across Collection-Oriented Scientific Workflow Runs

While a number of scientific workflow systems support data provenance, they primarily focus on collecting and querying provenance for single workflow runs. Scientific research projects, however, typically involve (1) many interrelated workflows (where data from one or more workflow runs are selected and used as input to subsequent runs) and (2) tasks between workflow runs that cannot be fully a...

From computation models to models of provenance: the RWS approach

Scientific workflows often benefit from or even require advanced modeling constructs, e.g., nesting of subworkflows, cycles for executing loops, data-dependent routing, and pipelined execution. In such settings, an often overlooked aspect of provenance takes center stage: A suitable model of provenance (MoP) for scientific workflows should be based upon the underlying model of computation (MoC)...

A Provenance-Integration Framework for Distributed Workflows in Grid Environments

Provenance information about complex and distributed workflows is a key issue for data quality control and data reliability maintenance in reservoir management. Distributed and integrated environments where different workflows consume and transform data require a comprehensive provenance view. In this scenario provenance collection and integration presents significant challenges. In this paper,...
